MOVIE REVIEW
ELEMENTAL
The Movie 'Elemental,' is about a
seemingly impossible romantic relationship
between 'water' and 'fire.' This movie
realistically but not darkly describes
immigrants' various problems in unfamiliar
environments through the 'humanized
elements.'
In Element City, the Lumen couple, Fire-
element immigrants in this city, run their
convenience store Fireplace. When they
thought they would retire from work,
they allowed their daughter Ember to run
this store independently. After her fiery
outburst breaks a water pipe and floods
the basement, she meets a Water-element
city inspector, Wade Ripple. He helps
her not to shut down the store because
of her violation. Their first meeting was
the worst, but they went through various
events and became indispensable to each
other.
As the story goes on, the audience can feel the charm of
this movie by looking at the process of resolving emotional
changes and conflicts between the two. So, if you think of
various 'humanized elements' as 'different races or ethnic
groups' in the real world (especially in the U.S.), you can
find out the message of this movie.
LITERATURE REVIEW
The Tragedy of Hamlet,
Prince of Denmark
Do you know the sentence "To be or not
to be that is the question"? Most people
have heard that sentence. But do you
see this sentence came out from William
Shakespeare's famous tragedy, 'The
Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark'?
In fact, this sentence came from Prince
Hamlet's monologues in the play.
The main plot of this drama is about
Prince Hamlet, the prince of Denmark,
who takes revenge on his uncle(Claudius).
So why was Hamlet determined to get
revenge? Because he saw his father's
ghost (King Hamlet), and the spirit told
him that Claudius killed the prior king.
Moreover, his uncle remarry the queen (his
father's wife-Gertrude).
So, Hamlet made a plan for revenge. He
stages a play called 'The Assassination
of Gonzago' in front of his mom and

When watching this movie, the scene
where Wade confesses his heart to Ember
was the most memorable in the film.
Although Wade's sincerity did not reach
Ember in that part, Wade, who had been
timid and somewhat passive until now,
expressed his true heart. Furthermore,
Ember's parents, who hated this water-
element young man, made me think of the
older generations who cannot understand
younger generations' new values and
attitudes.
The film's director, Peter Thorne II,
captures his childhood experiences as an
immigrant to New York. Therefore, you
can see immigrants' discrimination in U.S.
society and allow audiences to reflect on
themselves. Just as Ember and Wade's
love, which seemed impossible because of
the elemental differences of each other,
is finally realized, perhaps the harmonization of different
cultures that seems complicated may be overcome if everyone
loves one another.
This movie is recommendable because it solves various
social problems, such as discrimination experienced by
immigrants and prejudice against other races and cultures,
through familiar animations.

cousin of a lord named Gonzago, who
kills Gonzago and takes Gonzago's wife.
They noticed the story was the same as
their circumstances, so Claudius couldn't
stand watching it and exited. After that,
Hamlet gets a chance to kill Claudius
when repenting.
